Our Story

Dog It Dig It Rescue is a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Terre Haute, Indiana, committed to saving and improving the lives of dogs in need. Founded in 2010, we have been a beacon of hope for countless animals, averaging 250 successful adoptions each year. Our journey began with a simple mission: to rescue dogs facing euthanasia in overcrowded shelters and provide them with a second chance at finding loving forever homes. Over the years, we have expanded our efforts to include accepting owner surrenders when resources allow, and offering sanctuary to dogs who may require long-term care due to age, health issues, or behavioral needs.

What started as a small, passionate initiative has grown into a vital community resource, thanks to the unwavering support of volunteers, donors, and adopters. We operate as a rescue, adoption center, and sanctuary, ensuring every dog in our care receives the medical attention, training, and love they deserve before transitioning to their new families.

Our Mission

At Dog It Dig It Rescue, our core mission is to rescue dogs and give them another chance at finding their forever home. We believe every dog deserves a safe, nurturing environment and the opportunity to thrive. Whether through rehabilitation, fostering, or direct adoptions, we work tirelessly to match dogs with compatible families while promoting responsible pet ownership. We also provide sanctuary for those who need a permanent safe haven, ensuring no dog is left behind.

What We Do

Rescue Operations:

We partner with local shelters to pull dogs from euthanasia lists, prioritizing those who are overlooked due to breed, age, or medical conditions.
When local residents report stray dogs, we respond and attempt to reunite them with their owners.
When space allows, we accept surrenders from owners who can no longer care for their dogs.

Rehabilitation and Care:

All rescued dogs receive veterinary care, including vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and treatment for any health issues. We focus on socialization and training to prepare them for adoption.

Adoptions:

With an average of 250 adoptions annually, we carefully screen applicants to ensure the best matches. Our process sometimes includes home visits and follow-ups to support successful integrations.

Sanctuary Services:

For dogs that are not adoptable, we offer a lifelong home where they can live comfortably and happily.

Community Outreach:

Through social media and events, we educate the public on animal welfare, spay/neuter importance, and the joys of adopting rescue dogs.

Recent highlights from our work include heartwarming stories like Miss Mabel, a sweet senior dog who received her annual check-up and found a loving home; Cooper, who recovered from neutering and bounded into his new life; and bonded pairs like Jingle and Holly, two senior dogs who were adopted together to keep their special connection intact. These tales, shared through our videos and posts, showcase the transformative impact of our efforts.
